Roll bars are installed in a convertible. These are for safety. If the car rolls over in an accident, these roll bars automatically deploy before hitting the ground. The roll-over bars extend above the rear head restraints, protecting occupants while wearing their seat belts.

The images below show what the rollbars look like in rest position and after activation.
These roll bars are not for single use, as is the case with activated belt tensioners. After activation, they can be pushed back into the rest position. During a service, they will also have to be controlled with the test cabinet to guarantee operation.
