Every car is equipped with a hydraulic braking system. Nowadays, manufacturers increasingly apply an electronically controlled handbrake. Fully electric braking is not legally permitted. The brakes at the front and rear are often designed as disc brakes. In older and cheaper, modern vehicles, drum brakes are also used. A modern car is always equipped with brake boosters, a load-dependent brake force distributor. Classic cars are not always equipped with these systems.
