Nowadays, multiple underbody panels are mounted underneath every car. These serve several purposes:
- Protection for the body and various components against dirt, corrosion, and splashing water.
- Aerodynamics (allows air to flow more smoothly under the vehicle).
- Protection against animals that could easily crawl into the engine bay (think of cats seeking warmth, martens, etc.).
