A spoiler is designed to improve the grip and handling of a car. The air flow around the car changes with increasing speed. By using a spoiler, the downforce and consequently the handling can be improved. Spoilers can be mounted both at the front and rear of a car.
In fact, a spoiler only makes sense at high speeds (above 75 mph). On regular Dutch roads, it is actually of no use. Often spoilers are installed solely for enhancing the appearance of a car.
