Roll Bar:
In a convertible, roll bars are installed to ensure the safety of the occupants. When the car is about to roll over during an accident, these roll bars automatically deploy before the body hits the ground. The bars extend above the rear headrests to protect the occupants, provided they are wearing their seat belts.
The images below show what the roll bars look like in the resting position and after activation. Unlike seat belt pretensioners, which can only be used once, roll bars are not single-use. They can be manually pushed back into the resting position after activation. During servicing, they must be activated with a test device to check for correct operation.
