Isofix:
Isofix is a mounting system for child seats in cars. With this system, child seats can be attached to the vehicle’s body in a simple and safe manner. This is much safer than using the seatbelt for installation, as the seat cannot tip forward or sideways. In the image below, a child seat with two attachment points at the back is shown.
These attachment points are clicked onto the Isofix hooks mounted to the body (see image below). Once locked, the child seat is securely fastened to the car. Removing the seat is also simple. After disassembly, covers can be placed over the hooks, rendering them invisible.
Some vehicles also have Isofix mounting points on the front passenger seat. When a child seat is installed there, the passenger airbag must be deactivated. This can usually be done with the car key via a switch in the glove compartment or on the side of the dashboard.
