There are now several floor plates mounted under every car. These have several purposes:

• Protection for the body and multiple components against dirt, corrosion and splash water.
• Aerodynamics (the air flows more easily under the car).
• Protection against animals that could otherwise easily crawl into the engine compartment (think cats that seek the heat, martens, etc.)
